Hypertension matters. It is not a silent illness.
Mission Statement: To improve the lives of British Columbians with high blood pressure through individualized care, clinical innovation, research and education.
Research
Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the leading causes of heart attack, strokes, heart failure and kidney disease in Canada and one in five British Columbians have hypertension. More research is needed to figure out the best ways to control high blood pressure and to help patients gain better control of the risk factors that cause hypertension.
Clinical Care
The Hypertension Clinic accepts referrals for all patients with hypertension. The Hypertension Clinic provides a best evidence approach and includes health behaviour modification. We work together with primary care practitioners, and specialists in cardiology, nephrology and neurology as multidisciplinary care is a proven strategy for improving hypertension control.
Education
We are in the privileged position of training many medical students, family practice residents and medical residents in our ambulatory medicine training clinics at SPH/RAC and RCH/CARE clinics. We aim to educate all of our trainees about HTN care, giving the trainee skills to take with them and use in their own practice, regardless of their career path.
